It's Not The Same Without The Stale Bubble Gum
-
Another day, another article about the trading card boom, another note from me asking why all of a sudden people are going crazy over cards (and not just NFTs). I mean, haven't we seen this before, a boom followed by a total bust? Especially since fame is fleeting -- yesterday's superstar is today's who's-that. I have boxes of cards from my youth -- Hall of Famers to obscurities -- in mostly very good condition, but I'm not delusional that anyone will buy them. Either they're not mint because of a microscopic "flaw" or the player's just not Fernando Tatis Jr. or Juan Soto, today's young stars. Meanwhile, you have speculators with temperature-controlled vaults buying up Zion Williamson cards just in case. (WSB-TV/Atlanta)
