She got a short-term visa and stayed on in the country, in California, illegally after that. She met a guy from Montana and decided to get married. She went to Montana to plan the wedding and then had to drive back to California, but went the wrong way on the freeway and found herself at the Canadian border. The guard told her to make a u-turn by driving through the gate and turning around, but that put her on the Canadian side of the border, and that meant she left the country. And that, in turn, has her being deported. Sorry, but what part of "overstaying your visa for seven years is illegal" got lost in translation?
