Got Any Books With Better Ideas?

This is a problem with no resolution in sight: a public library in Redondo Beach dealing with homeless people. Patrons complain that the homeless folks disrupt them while they're using the library, and, yes, when there's a homeless person talking loudly or monopolizing the bathroom or, let's face it, being malodorous, it means others can't really enjoy the facility. But, as advocates will point out, where else are the homeless supposed to go? And you can't categorize all homeless people as one homogenous group, so you're dealing with everyone from the mentally ill and addicted to people who are just down on their luck in a harsh world. In this case, the city is telling the library it can enforce its rules by calling the police, but the problem is way harder to solve than just calling the cops on the homeless. Balancing the practical with compassion is not easy. (Daily Breeze, Torrance)
