What Do They Play When They Lose?
-
The Sixers have that corny "1-2-3-4-5 Sixers" song, but they didn't make it past the second round, so we still have the Miami Heat's victory song, "Pepas," by Farruko, and if you watch Heat games you know the song. Unlike the Sixers' song, which annoyed me in the '70s even though I was a Sixers fan, "Pepas" is a relatively new song, from 2021, and got adopted by the Heat's fans, who go nuts when it plays, generally late in the game when the Heat is ahead by a comfortable margin. (It's also about popping pills, so it's particularly Miami.) Officially, it's not a victory song, but the fans take it as such. It's the musical equivalent of Red Auerbach's cigar, if you're old enough to know what that is. What is or should be your team's victory song, one that means something to your town? (Miami Herald)
