Turns Out It's A Rain Cloud
-
It's been a few days and T-Mobile still can't answer what happened that led to them losing all the data that customers' Sidekick phones held. See, the way it works, Sidekicks save all the contacts and messages and pictures and stuff on T-Mobile's servers, an early example of "cloud computing." And the other day, there was a crash, and it turned out T-Mobile DIDN'T HAVE A BACKUP. So some folks lost everything -- contacts, pictures, everything. While they work on what to say, it's a reminder that the wholesale move the computer industry wants you to make from saving stuff on your hard drive to leaving everything in the "cloud" has its risks.
