Half A Brain, Not A Half-Wit

How does this woman function more or less normally with half a brain? That's not a joke, that's literal: She's missing half a brain due to a probable pre-birth stroke. And the remaining half, the right side, has apparently rewired itself to allow her to speak pretty normally, get around okay, and have a regular life, from graduating high school to dating. She's not totally normal -- she has problems with some abstract concepts and can't easily control her emotions -- but she's way more average than someone who lost the entire left side of her brain would be expected to be.
