Not Worth The Trouble Anyway. Let The Bosses Worry About It

On one hand, you can feel sorry for the Wal-Mart employee who stopped a shoplifter and got fired for it. After all, she did foil a robbery, which is good, right? But anyone who's ever worked in retail knows that Rule Number One, which they tell you practically the moment you start, is that you are not allowed to try to stop a shoplifter. You're told to notify security and not get further involved; they don't want to deal with the liability. This woman says she didn't know of the rule, and I doubt that's true, since it's such a big deal when they train you. Seems harsh, but they tell you not to do it and that means you don't do it.
