Justice Delayed 38 Years
-
With the release of a report saying that the January 1972 "Bloody Sunday" killings in Londonderry were unjustifiable, British Prime Minister David Cameron has issued an apology while announcing the study's findings. The report placed the blame squarely on the Army for opening fire on crowds at the demonstration; the soldiers, says the resort, fired the first shot, and some of the killed were clearly fleeing or trying merely to help others. Even though a prominent Sinn Fein member was present and armed with a sub-machine gun, the report said, he wasn't doing anything to provoke that response. 13 people died in the incident. Now comes the tough part, trying to decide whether to bring the soldiers to trial after 38 years. (BBC)
