He Was Responsible For 36 Women In Tight Dresses Being There? Give Him A Medal
-
Robbie Earle, former player and now color commentator on British commercial network ITV's coverage of the World Cup, isn't covering the World Cup anymore. He's been fired, because the tickets he got for family and friends ended up in the hands of an "ambush marketing" company. The tickets apparently ended up being used as a block for a Dutch brewery's promotion wherein 36 women wearing orange dresses (with no logo on them, but the dresses are from the brewery) all sat together, conspicuously, in the stands for the Denmark-Holland game. The women were detained and questioned by police and threatened with prosecution for "ambush marketing." A few things: One, yeah, you're not supposed to resell your tickets, so bad on Robbie if he did. But two, what's the big deal about "ambush marketing"? So 36 women in tight orange dresses were sitting together in the stands -- so what? You couldn't even really tell that it was for a beer, because orange IS synonymous with Holland and the national team, and half the stadium was wearing orange. Lighten up, Francis. (Sky News)
