Chicago's Magnificent Mile, the stretch of North Michigan Avenue that has all the stores, has been hurting in recent years, but it's made a little comeback recently. How? Through an influx of off-price stores and discount chains. Yes, it beats empty storefronts, of which there were many, but when a street known for upscale shopping is surviving by being a disconnected strip mall, it's kinda sad. (Chicago Tribune)
