Maybe They'll Get Even More Money If They Shut All The Schools Down
-
By all accounts, Joyce Irvine turned around a failing elementary school in Vermont. She came in and fixed it, and everyone from the school board to parents and students and even Sen. Bernie Sanders agrees that she did a great job. And she was fired. Why? So that the school district could be eligible for stimulus funds. No, really. The Obama administration requires schools with low test scores to close down; be replaced by a charter (which Vermont doesn't permit); remove the principal and half the staff; or remove the principal and "transform the school." So she's been fired, as the easiest one to accomplish. There HAS to be a better way to do this. (New York Times)
