My Calls Are All 'I'm At Ralphs. We Need Anything? Milk? No? OK, Be Home Soon'

A guy's developed a box for $1,500 that can intercept some cell phone calls and record everything that's said. It works on GSM (AT&T, T-Mobile, and most of the rest of the world) on 2G only, and it has limitations (at present, it only does outgoing calls and sends Caller ID information to the recipient that identifies the box), but it wouldn't take much tweaking to fix those things. The point of the device isn't to offer spying aid, it's to show that there's a security problem in the GSM system. And if someone wants to intercept calls, they will. (San Francisco Chronicle)
