If You're Not Where The People Are, You Don't Exist

Talk about not getting it: Steve Levitan, co-creator of ABC sitcom "Modern Family," has asked the network to take the show off Hulu and ABC.com. Why? Because, he notes, that viewing doesn't get added to the totals for the show's ratings. He wants it only to air where it gets Nielsen credit. But having the show online promotes the show, right? If someone discovers the show online, he or she will be more likely to watch it on ABC at some point, right? And people who watch TV online who WOULDN'T watch on ABC are people who won't watch it whether or not it's online as well. It's a new media era, but a lot of people don't understand how it works. The old business model's dying. (New York Post; Thanks to Jeff Katz at WXKS (Rush Radio 1200)/Boston for the link)
