Poor people don't buy a lot of produce. How to fix that? A test program is giving produce discounts for food stamp recipients, It's a $20 million subsidy. Who's paying the difference? You are. It's a federal subsidy to see if a discount gets poor people eating more fruit and vegetables. Here's the question: Why can't they buy fruit and vegetables already? People choose to eat what they want. If they don't want to buy peaches and celery with the food stamps they have now, they don't want it, period.
