It Would Be Cheaper For Me, But I'm Not Moving Back There
-
The story about Philadelphia hitting bloggers with a license fee has exploded, but it's not exactly what the news reports are saying. Here's the originating paper noting the facts: First, it's not $300 a year, it's either $300 a LIFETIME or $50 a year. And it's not for bloggers who make no money, it's for those who make, however little, any money at all on their sites. And they aren't hunting down all bloggers, just going to those who get 1099s for income received. After all that hoopla, it turns out that the Philly bloggers actually pay less for their license than I have to pay as a freelance writer-editor-producer and business operator in my town every year, and there's no lifetime discount here, either.
