But The Online Version Makes It Easier To Look Up Dirty Words
-
Not quite dead but circling the drain: The Oxford English Dictionary. The definitive word on words has been printed for over a century and costs $1,165 for 20 volumes, but it's all available online for $295 a year, meaning, well, what's the point of the printed version? The point is that there's something about the experience of turning the pages and browsing and seeing all the listings together that online can't duplicate. But the economics are getting worse and worse for that as the years pass. (AP via Bergen Record)
