Reckless Kelly
Feb 15, 2010
For brothers Willy and Cody Braun, music was everywhere. With their father, grandfather, and uncles as musicians, the kids in the Braun family weren't choosing whether or not to be musicians, they were choosing which instruments they wanted to learn.
Gathering band members from across the country, Reckless Kelly have put their roots down in Austin, Texas. "Austin has always been more about the music and less about the industry," says Willy, in the cover story in the February issue of Best In Texas Music Magazine.
Reckless Kelly's forthcoming release Somewhere In Time is classic Reckless. The songs about cowboys, lovin', cheatin', and drinking are all written by singer-songwriter Pinto Bennett, a major influence on the Braun brothers who "was ahead of his time," playing alt-country that was politically incorrect and unapologetic. Don't mistake this for a tribute - Bennett is still very much alive - according to Reckless Kelly, it's more of an homage.
Reckless Kelly have a lot of touring ahead of them with the release of the new album, but they will take time out for their second annual Softball Jam in Round Rock, Texas. The combination softball game and concert helps raise funds for Austin agencies that support local little league teams and the Miracle League, an organization that builds baseball diamonds for special-needs children. Last year the event raised $30,000, and they hope for an even better year in 2010.
