BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Picture it: Pittsburgh, 1982. I emerged into the world and long story short ... here I am today! My name is Tall Cathy and I've been working with Clear Channel Pittsburgh for roughly eight years. I started as an intern and worked my way from promotions, to sales assistant, to tallest girl in Pittsburgh radio. Next stop: world domination.
1) How would you describe your first radio gig?
I'm a born-and-bred Pittsburgh girl lucky enough to say that my first radio gig is the one that I currently hold, in my hometown at 96.1 Kiss. Truthfully, I think they kept me around because of my height. I can hang station banners in really high places.
2) What led you to a career in radio?
I graduated from Clarion University with a Business Marketing degree and came to Clear Channel because I wanted to combine my love for music and marketing.
3) Are you wearing more "hats" than you have in the past?
Of course. In radio, we take on multiple responsibilities. I've had at least three jobs since I've been 16, so wearing multiple hats has always been the norm. I actually really enjoy it because it gives me the chance to learn and grow.
4) What is your favorite part of the job?
No doubt, the experiences. I've done some amazing things and gone to some amazing places over my past eight years with CC. I feel very blessed being able to do what I do for a living.
5) What artist would we be surprised to find on your iPod?
I'm a rock girl at heart and my guy friends always poke fun because I LOOOOVE Gavin DeGraw. I don't care. I'm a girl, I'm allowed!
6) What's one thing that would surprise many people to learn about you?
I love a good mustache
7) Who would be a "dream guest" to have on your show?
Honestly, my dream guest is Conan O'Brien and I had the opportunity to sit down with him last year in L.A. before the launch of CONAN on TBS. He hit on me the entire time. It was awesome.
8) What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
I grew up making mix tapes from B94. As I grew older and became more interested in rock music, I fell for 104.7 The Revolution and 105.9 The X.
9) Looking back, which years hold the best musical memories for you and who were your favorite acts at that time?
Definitely my teen years, that's when I really grew into the alternative scene and started going to rock shows. Losing my shoes while crowd surfing at a concert became a weekly activity. In high school I was all over The Smashing Pumpkins, Fuel and Eve 6. I wanted to marry Max Collins from Eve 6 in the worst way. Still kinda do.
10) What music do you listen to when you're not working?
Mumford & Sons, Young the Giant, Jimmy Eat World, The Helio Sequence & The Black Keys are in my current iTunes rotation.
Bonus Questions
What ringtone do you have on your cell?
Have you ever seen Will Ferrell's Robert Goulet impersonation on Saturday Night Live? Well, every time my cell rings, you hear Will singing, "Dingle dongle, dingle dongle, someone's calling you GOULET." Always good for a laugh ... and extreme confusion.
