BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
A love of pop culture influenced my decision to pursue a career in the entertainment industry. Though radio wasn't plan A, luckily I happily stumbled into one of the best jobs ever! Let's just say those stories you hear "an internship turned into job"... that's what happened.
1) What makes your station unique? How would you compare it to other stations you've worked at?
What makes i106.7FM unique is that it's a radio station that still does "radio." Music truly is a passion for everyone at the station more so than the likes on Instagram. The music comes first before anything else.
2) Are you wearing more "hats" than you have in the past?
No, and it's a wonderful feeling because now I luckily get to work on building a brand and improving my on-air craft. Joe Breezy's belief in me inspires me daily to improve and be at the top of my game.
3) What are your favorite show prep sources?
I'm always keeping eyes and ears on pop culture so it could be anything from E News, Twitter, even something on Instagram! The best show prep is real-in-time news, and social media allows for that type of prep.
4) "Local, local, local" has always been radio's mantra. How do you keep your station visible and involved in the community?
It's actually the easiest part of the job. Nashville is a host to many events, concerts, sporting events, non-profits, charities, etc. Because there's always something to do, we created a feature on my midday show that highlights local happenings on a daily basis. Local, fresh, fun and very involved.
5) What is your favorite part of the job?
First and foremost, I get to work with some of the best people in the industry, not just talent-wise but personality-wise as well. It's also exciting to discover new artists and share in that excitement with our listeners.
6) What is the most challenging part of the job?
As cliche as it sounds, I am my own worst critic, so for me, the challenge is feeling a pressure to improve not just book to book, but daily.
7) What artist would we be surprised to find on your personal playlist?
St. Lucia!
8) What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
KIIS-FM, KROQ and KOST.
9) What music do you listen to when you're not working?
Classical when I'm studying; Urban when I'm working out; and everything in between depending on my mood.
10) What advice would you give people new to the business?
Stay true, be kind, never forget where you came from and don't forget to call your mom!
Bonus Questions
What did you want to be when you were growing up?
