BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
What a ride so far, i started as an intern for iHeart/Boston at KISS 108 & JAM'N 945 which brought me to my first gig in New Bedford, MA on FUN 107 (WFHN). From there I got hired for 103.3 AMP/Boston (WODS) for weekends/fill-in, where I eventually became the night show co-host. Portland, Maine called where I moved to take on Afternoons on HOT 104.7 (WHTP) (and still be on air in Boston on the weekends). A few months in, I moved up to host the morning show for a few years which really helped me build my brand. Now, I found my way back into iHeart with new heights in my current position hosting the night show on WKQI Channel 955 in Detroit!
1. How would you describe your first radio gig?
Well, I was young, doing overnights in New Bedford, and every time I popped the mic I was so nervous that I was gonna mess up putting words together for the two people who were gonna hear me, but that helped create a character.
2. What led you to a career in radio?
It was something I could never stop thinking about anytime I got in the car. "If I was on that show I would say what nobody else wants to say right now." I was taught at a very young age if you can't stop thinking about it, don't stop working for it, so I didn't!
3. You're six months into doing nights at Channel 95.5. How's it going so far?
Have you ever gone to a party where you knew nobody and weren't sure what to expect and then it becomes the most fun you've ever had and you're glad you went? That's how it's going so far. Shout out to my Channel family for accepting me so well and only lifting me higher.
4. How are you using social media to augment what you're doing on the air?
Social is everything right now. I like to tease ticket giveaways and topics on my own and the station's IG stories before I say them on air so listeners are prepared to call in. Connect. Shout out real IG handles and names of fans--show followers your faults behind the scenes, put a face to the name, keep it real, keep it fun.
5. "Local local local" has always been radio's mantra. How do you stay visible and involved in the community?
Honestly, that's the easy part since I can never sit still and adventuring is a hobby for me. Since the day I moved here, I pick a new bar or activity to go do even if I'm doing it alone. Strangers are hilarious and full of content, and sometimes they become your best friends like my entire friend group right now!
6. What is your favorite part of the job?
Touching people's emotionally, especially when they reach out to me to let me know. Keeping things transparent and real and relating to our listeners is key. Let them know you had a bad day they'll let you know you're not alone. Let them know you're super proud of yourself today because you didn't trip over a single thing so far and they'll laugh WITH you--or AT you in a lot of my cases. Either way let's have fun about it.
7. Who would be a "dream guest" to have on your show?
Dude , Post Malone please sit down in front of me and explain how far we're really gonna go with these face tats. I'm not here to judge I just wanna know.
8. What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid? Favorite jock?
Z100 and the Z Morning Zoo in NYC. I just remember my mom being like WHAT THE HELL DID THEY JUST DO and me being like "OMG amazing--I wanna get slimed too" or whatever ridiculous stunt they were doing that morning. Ashlee Feldman is one of my favorites- have you ever heard her? That queen will literally say anything she wants to, just how it should be.
9. Who were your mentors?
Shout out to mentors who became FAMILY; The V Bros. Mikey V. pushed me to make my first demo tape when I was his first intern in Boston crying on the floor of the studio because I had to graduate and couldn't be in the building anymore. I'd spend holidays with their family when I couldn't go home because i had to be on the air. Dylan Sprague, Ryan Deelon, Lee L'Heureux, Joe Breezy, Jackson Blue, so much love for the help along the way. And of course my bosses now; Tony Travatto and Paul Corvino, two of the most supportive guys in the game who keep me motivated.
10. What is it about our industry that keeps you wanting to do it for a living?
I've been in this industry for about 10 years now and the fact that every single day I can walk into that studio and still feel the same hunger and passion that I started with to create a great show is a feeling that I'm not willing to give up no matter how hard I have to hustle to keep it. Being a female in this industry, I'm out to continue proving we're not just laugh tracks and can host one HELL of a show on our own if we had to.
