1) How would you describe your first radio gig?
Intern Hell for Big Tyme at B96 in Minneapolis. Being shocked with 50,000-volt police tazers, stepping in mouse traps barefoot and wearing daisy dukes to the clubs were regular occurences. GOD, I LOVE RADIO!
2) What led you to a career in radio?
The desire to make lots of money ... hasn't worked out yet!
3) How would you describe the radio landscape in your market?
Dull and boring! Besides KISS, Boise is asleep. I guess I'll give some credit to the other stations in the market. They have great voicetrackers. And whoever writes their liner cards should get some credit.
4) Are you wearing more "hats" than you have in the past?
I am fortunate to have the opportunity to learn every aspect of "RADIO" here at KISS FM. From programming to promotions, I think every staff member here wears every hat, from board op to PD.
5) What is your favorite part of the job?
Free food when fast-food employees recognize who I am.
6) What is the most challenging part of the job?
When people confuse me with Ryan Seacrest!
7) Could you give us a little insight into your on air staff?
The best of the best. Mornings: The Hooker and Chad show is one of a kind. I have never seen two people who can feed off of each other so well. Hooker IS a morning jock, and Chad is ... Chad.
Afternoons: Keke Luv has a gift when it comes to programming and promotions. He wins everywhere he goes. If you want to be successful in radio, follow Keke's lead. If you want to fail go up against him.
Nights: I made a deal with the devil to own nights in Boise.
8) What is it about our industry that keeps you wanting to do it for a living?
The potential to create and control something that your entire city can listen to and enjoy. And the challenge of creating a positive identity for your station.
9) What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
Don't date the interns.
10) What is the current state of the radio "talent pool?"
The same as the local sperm bank -- guys coming in to get off ... then get paid.
Bonus Questions
For someone vacationing in your market, what one thing would you say they "must see?"
If you want to have fun, go to a Boise State game. If you want good food, go to Barbacoa. If you want to laugh, go to one of our competing stations' remotes.
