Please outline your radio career so far:
WBTJ & WNCD/Youngstown
WBTT & WRLR/Fort Myers
WFKS & WPLA/Jacksonville
WMMS & WAKS/Cleveland1 How would you describe your first radio gig?
Loading in the Sounds of Sinatra for AM 1540 WNIO, then being intern and part time bitch boy for Nardboy (currently my competitor as PD of WXRK)
2 What led you to a career in radio?
I was waitin' tables at a Pizza Hut in Youngstown and waited on Casey Malone, then from WNCD. Told her I would like an internship and she was like, "Sure! Just call and get one." I thought she was serious. So I called ... and called ... and called. Eventually I got it and once I was in ...I was in.
3 What is your favorite part of the job?
I love the creative aspects. Making things work better and always doing things differently.
4 What is your current on-air line-up?
Valentine in the morning; Randi West has middays, Kasper does afternoons and we're currently looking for a night stud.
5 Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff and why do you like them?
Jim Philips/Philips Phile at WTKS/Orlando, and Howard. I like REAL people on the radio.
6 What was your favorite station to listen to when you were a kid?
93.3 FLZ. I would spend summers in Sarasota FL, tape Bubba the Love Sponge, bring it home to Ohio and play it for my friends. Those old Bubba days were golden.
7 Do you have a favorite hobby outside of radio?
Coming home and hangin' with the family. THAT is what it's about. THAT is why we do this.
8 What's one thing that would surprise many people to learn about you?
I have a teaching degree in English.
9 What advice you would give people new to the business?
Don't think just because it's been done "that way" forever, that's how it should be done. Be different. Take chances.
10 What is the current state of the radio 'talent pool'?
It's bad. Jocks out there sound the same. Why do DJ's sound like DJ's? Why do night jocks still scream? Creative people will rise to the top. The people that understand new technologies, the web, MySpace, how to spread the word like a virus; they will get noticed, and win.
Bonus Questions
What ringtone do you have on your cel?
E-40 "U And Dat." Believe it or not, it's my kids' favorite song. What's funnier than hearing a three and five year old singin "YOOUUUU and dat booty ... YOOUUUU and dat monkey?" Sheeze!
