Please outline your radio career so far: (station/date, station/date, etc.)
1998-2003: WNKS/Charlotte; Full Time Overnights/Swing
2003-2004: KZMG/Magic 93.1 Boise; Morning Show Co-Host
2004-Present: WHBQ/Memphis; Nights1) How would you describe your first radio gig?
My first radio gig was very confusing! I was only nineteen at the time John Reynolds (PD WNKS) took a chance on me. I just smiled all the time and ACTED like I REALLY knew what I was doing!
2) What led you to a career in radio?
I started on the college station at Western Carolina University when I was freshman because one of the jocks told me that he too was fat, and he said that he is able to score with the hottest chicks because he talked on the radio. I was like, Uhhhhhh, when can I get on?
3) It's our 10th anniversary this year. What were you doing 10 years ago?
I was excited because I was finally fourteen and a half, and Piggly Wiggly hired at that age for baggers, so I got a jizob!
4) What Movie or TV program best describes your life?
Tommy Boy ...That's gonna leave a mark! Riiiichhhhhard!.
5) How would you describe your radio market?
A heavily saturated Urban market with 6 or 7 Urban leaning stations. We're the only Top 40 in town, and are able to serve the female 18-34 demo quite well.
6) Using one sentence for each, how would you describe the on-air staff at the station?
Karson (Mornings): Ryan Seacrest meets... well Ryan Seacrest.
Kennedy (Morning co-host): Do what your told, don't steal her beer, and she'll love you to death.
Danni (Middays): A walking hangover.
Lugnut (Afternoons): Everyday is the WORST day of his life ... WHAAAAAAAAT?7) Who is your favorite air personality not on your staff and why do you like them?
Kane from 93.3 FLZ is, in my opinion, the best jock out there. His ability to be real and topical without "puking" is admired by all I'm sure. (Kane, Tell Wacker I'm coming for his gig!)
8) What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
Try to MEET female fans who call the request lines BEFORE you invite them over at 2am.
9) 9. What advice you would give people new to the business?
Stay humble, and remember to listen to those who try to help you.
10) What effect, if any, has industry consolidation had on your current situation?
Thankfully it hasn't. Dr. Flinn and the management believe in live, local radio all the time, and they know it takes money to make money!
Bonus Questions
What's your opinion on Myspace.com and its relationship with radio?
All the jocks here have Myspace pages, and our station has one, too! Between all of us, we have well over 1500 "friends." It's another excellent tool to reach the Top 40 demo. It's the center of pop culture right now, and I'd swear just about every woman between 16-25 has a page.
