Please outline your radio career so far:
Okay ... here is Dick's back story! Dick is the host of the world's first and greatest syndicated radio love song request show -- that doesn't play any love songs! "The Love-Seat with Dick Limelight" has been an industry favorite for over 300 years! It has been said that many of today's biggest radio stars, including Howard Stern, Rush Limbaugh, Delilah and even Ryan Seacrest have copied Dick Limelight's style! Dick Limelight began his radio journey as an intern for the late great Ron "Driftwood" Curry at Classy 790 somewhere in Virgina.
His first full-time job happened shortly after he started "making love" to a hot news girl on America's first radio station, KDKA. Then Dick truly caught on fire! In the '70s and '80s, Dick was heard on every major radio station across the U.S. and Iceland, such as WBNQ/Bloomington, IN and WIOG/Saginaw, MI. Dick Limelight has used his fame to influence people, change history and make the world a better place.
Dick has been involved in many public protests including his infamous "Drink-ins" that eventually ended the Civil War and gave women the right to vote. After years in radio, Dick Limelight checked himself into rehab, not because he had a problem but because in his words "there were a lot of hot chicks there ... that liked to party!" Now a little wiser, fatter, and with a lot less money, Dick is back on the radio on his relaunched weekly syndicated radio show, "The Love-Seat with Dick Limelight."
1) How would you describe your first radio gig?
I interned for the late great Ron "Driftwood" Curry at Classy 790 AM, in some city and state I don't remember. We worked hard and drank a lot! Those were the days of ... something ... I think! (Slurp)
2) What led you to a career in radio?
Whaaat? The year was 1940 ... something! (Slurp). Back in those days, being on the radio meant something! It meant you were on the radio! (Slurp).
3) What makes your studio unique? How would you compare it to other stations you've worked at?
The syndicated show is done out of my house! Nobody is telling me that I have to dub carts or change the reel-to-reel machine. (Slurp) Freedom is everything!
4) Are you wearing more "hats" than you have in the past?
NO! I don't really like to wear hats. My tuxedo shirt has a wine stain on it, but THAT builds character (Slurp) Ya know, that's something these kids on the radio lack today ... tuxes!
5) What is your favorite part of the job?
Hosting the "world's greatest love song show ... that doesn't play any love songs." It's about love and songs ... and the love you feel for the love songs that you don't play! (Slurp) I like pizza too!
6) What is the most challenging part of the job?
Nowadays I hear a lot of words to describe me, like veteran, legend and prophet. But I am just a DJ at heart! Sure, I am all of these things and more! (Slurp) Yes, I AM great, but that doesn't mean I don't put on my pants one leg at a time! I do! My personal assistant Eppy Lopez starts with the left leg and then he puts in my right leg and buttons them up!
7) Could you give us a little insight into your staff?
I don't use staff. I am not a shepard! (Slurp) In '73, I fell down a fire escape while I was trying to get out of a married women's apartment after her husband came home early, and I hurt my foot, so I used a cane for awhile, but my foot healed. (Slurp) I wish I could say the something about my emotional scars from that experience.
8) Looking back, which years hold the best musical memories for you and who were your favorite acts at that time?
Music has changed. (Slurp) I remember music in the '70s ... I met this young girl named Lola; she was a show-girl! She had yellow feathers in her hair, and her dress ... was on my floor!
9) Do you have a favorite hobby outside of radio?
I never liked the Lord Of The Rings! (Slurp) But if I had to pick one, I would say the fat one with the big hairy feet! (Slurp) He was pretty cool!
10) What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career?
After doing this for many years your motives change. For the first half of my career, it was all about partying and picking up women! (Slurp) You have your highs and lows, your ups and downs, your good and bad times. As you get older and wiser, you begin to realize that it's ... still all about partying and picking up women!
Bonus Questions
What's the biggest gaffe you've made on-air?
I have never had a gaffe on the air ... their necks are too long, and they would hit their poor little heads on the track lighting! I did have an alpaca in the studio once, and two goats. They didn't get along, and one of them ate my pizza! So there is now a strict no-goat policy! (Slurp) But alpacas ARE welcome in the love seat!
You're in the Love seat ... I'm Dick Limelight!
