“No Roots” is the name of the first single released by the German-Irish singer-songwriter, Alice Merton. It is on her debut EP also called “No Roots” which was released on February 3rd via Mom+Pop Records.
The track finds Alice singing about her nomadic existence. She explains, “If you listen to the song, you basically know my story. I think a lot of people can relate to this situation of never really feeling at home in the world, especially with everything that’s going on nowadays."
Alice was born in Germany and grew up in Canada and Great Britain. She began playing in Canada at the age of 5, and vocal lessons followed at age 10. When she realized that her heart was in it for “creating something of [her] own” the next step was “to pursue songwriting professionally.” She studied for a Bachelor’s degree at Popakademie; a conservatoire for popular music in Mannheim, Germany. Recently, she won the Jugend Kulturell prize for Acoustic Pop, a nationwide competition aiming to promote the many facets of culture through changing its category annually.
Alice has festival dates in Germany, including Lollapalooza Berlin. She will be coming to the U.S. later this year.
