Singer-songwriter JP Saxe was born Jonathan Percy Starker Saxe in Toronto. He currently resides in Los Angeles.
His grandfather, acclaimed Hungarian-born cellist Janos Starker, inspired Saxe to study the cello as a teenager. He moved onto piano and guitar as he began honing his craft. In his twenties, he began posting songs to social media. He relocated to California and continued to record, releasing his first single, "Changed," in 2017. Another single, "The Few Things," released in 2018, has since amassed over 50 million streams and lead to his first headlining tour and a label deal with Arista Records.
His musical influences include Lauryn Hill, Paul Simon, Jamie Cullum, Justin Nozuka, Allen Stone, Lianne La Havas, Carole King.
2019 was a big year for the performer. "If The World Was Ending," a powerful duet with Julia Michaels was released in Canada that year, earning praise from artists including Shawn Mendes, Gwen Stefani, Alessia Cara and Lewis Capaldi. It has spent nearly 6 months in Spotify's "Today's Top Hits" playlist and has upwards of 380 Million streams.
JP completed a nationwide summer/fall tour with Noah Kahan (and some dates with Jeremy Zucker) and, in November, he performed the track with Michaels on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. His debut EP, Hold It Together, was released earlier this year.
