The rapper was born Megan Pete in Houston, TX on February 15, 1995.
Her mother, who passed away in March 2019, was a Texas rap artist who would bring her to recording sessions. By 16 Megan began to write her own rap lyrics and later adopted the moniker Megan Thee Stallion. She began posting clips of herself freestyling on Instagram. Her confident style, featuring explicit lyrics and unapologetic references about sexuality helped to forge a large, loyal social media presence along the way.
Her first mixtape was released in 2016, followed by her debut EP, Make It Hot, in 2017. The next year, she signed to 1501 Certified Ent. (an indie label in Houston) and released Tina Snow, her second EP ("Tina Snow" is one of Megan's alter egos, inspired by Texas rapper Pimp C's alias Tony Snow). The EP contained the breakout track, "Big Ole Freak." That year she performed at SxSW and in November 2018, she became the first female rapper signed to 300 Entertainment.
Another alter ego, "Hot Girl Meg," reflects the college, party girl side of the singer (she attended Texas Southern University, where she studied health administration). This alter ego made her appearance on Fever, Megan's first full length, released in May 2019.
In addition to Pimp C, Megan says her other musical influences include Lil Kim, Biggie Smalls and Three 6 Mafia.
"Hot Girl Summer" started as a viral catchphrase for the singer in 2018 and became the title of a song featuring Nicki Minaj and Ty Dolla $ign. The song won the Best Power Anthem award at the 2019 MTV VMA's.
"Savage" is the latest single and comes from her third EP, Suga, which was released in March 2020. A remix featuring superstar and fellow Houston performer, Beyonce, was released in late April.
Suga, the artist's 3rd EP, was released in March 2020. It included the song "Savage" which went viral on the app TikTok due to a 'dance challenge' to the song. A remix featuring Beyonce was released and the song climbed to #1 on the Billboard Hot 100.
Megan's debut album, Good News, was released in November 2020. "Girls In The Hood" was the first single released from the set. It was followed by "Don't Stop" (f. Young Thug) and current release, "Body."
