Travie McCoy
Feb 21, 2011
Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen recording artist Travie McCoy has announced details of his first-ever solo North American headline tour. Presented by Arenarap.com, the "Sgt. Schlepper's Who Needs Hearts Club Band Tour" will hit the road beginning March 17th at the Opera House in Toronto, Ontario, and then travel through early April.
Travie, who is currently poised to enter the studio to begin recording Gym Class Heroes' hugely anticipated fifth album due for release later this year, earned widespread acclaim and massive popular success with last year's groundbreaking solo debut, "Lazarus." The album's latest single, "We'll Be Alright," is looking like yet another major CHR/Pop smash for the multi-talented McCoy, who recently rang in 2011 by performing the track on Fox's nationally televised New Year's Eve Live. "We'll Be Alright" - co-produced by two of the world's hottest production teams in The Smeezingtons and Stereotypes, has also drawn critical acclaim, with USA Today hailing it as "summery...almost Beach Boy-ish," and Spin declaring it an "ultra-catchy pop-rap jam...which hits the same mass-market pleasure center as B.o.B's mash-note smash, 'Nothin' On You.'"
"We'll Be Alright", now impacting Top 40, follows two prior smash singles featured on "Lazarus," including "Need You" and the 2x RIAA platinum, top 5 blockbuster, "Billionaire (Feat. Bruno Mars.)." In addition to performing both tracks on the aforementioned New Year's Eve Live, Travie has made an array of high-profile television appearances, including the 2010 MTV Video Music Awards, NBC's The Tonight Show with Jay Leno and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon, VH1's Do Something Awards, ABC's The View, TBS' Lopez Tonight, Fox's 2010 Teen Choice Awards, and Fuse's A Different Spin with Mark Hoppus. What's more, "Billionaire" was among the featured songs performed on the highly rated second season premiere of Fox's Glee.
In related news, Travie is also climbing the charts as the featured guest on Taio Cruz's latest single, "Higher." The track is currently top 20 on the CHR/Pop charts while the companion video, which also features Travie, has garnered over 2 million views on YouTube.
A charismatic, crowd-pleasing live performer, Travie spent much of 2010 on the road, sharing stages with Photo Finish recording duo 3OH!3 and Decaydance/Fueled By Ramen labelmates Cobra Starship on MTV's epic "Too Fast For Love" tour, and supporting Rihanna and Ke$ha at such massive venues as New York's Madison Square Garden, Los Angeles' Staples Center, and Miami's American Airlines Center.
McCoy, of course, first achieved international stardom as the frontman of alternative hip-hop superstars Gym Class Heroes. The band exploded in 2006 with their RIAA gold certified second album, "As Cruel As School Children," highlighted by the #1 multi-format worldwide hit, "Cupid's Chokehold/Breakfast In America." The following year saw GCH named "Best New Artist" at the 2007 MTV Video Music Awards. "The Quilt," released in 2008, earned acclaim for its unique collaborations with such diverse stars as Busta Rhymes, Estelle, The-Dream, and Daryl Hall. "Its most eclectic by far," declared the New York Times. "Here, (GCH) has built upon its roots in emo and hip-hop with an album that grazes over rhythm and blues, reggae and ska, as well as 1980s soft-rock."
