The English born Scottish recording artist and songwriter, Emeli Sandé has certainly become a household name in the past few months. Her single "Next to Me" released in the US on April 17th 2012 has to date had 24 million views online. 2.4 million of her albums sold and she is the #1 selling artist of 2012 in the UK impacting 1-14.
She first stepped onto the music scene after she was featured on the track "Diamond Rings" by the rapper Chipmunk back in 2009. It was their first top 10 single on the UK Singles Chart. In 2010, she was featured on "Never Be Your Woman" by the rapper Wiley, which became another top ten hit. Renown American Idol judge Simon Cowell, called Sandé "his favorite songwriter at the minute. Late last year Sandé received the Brit Awards Critics' Choice Award. She has written for a number of artists, including Cher Lloyd, Parade, Gabrielle, Rihanna, Leona Lewis and more.
In 2010, she signed a publishing deal with EMI Music Publishing. She later announced that Virgin Records had given her a record deal. Sandé released her first solo single "Heaven" in August 2011. Sandé has three number-one singles across the United Kingdom and Ireland with "Read All About It" with Professor Green, "Next to Me" and "Beneath Your Beautiful" a collaboration with Labrinth. Her album Our Version of Events peaked at number one in the UK, soon after its release in February 2012. She had the immense pleasure of performing at 2012 Opening and Closing ceremonies of the London Olympics.
November 2012 also saw Sandé feature on Labrinth's single "Beneath Your Beautiful" which became her second number-one as a featured artist in the United Kingdom. The album campaign ended in January 2013 following the release of "Clown" as the album's fifth single; which peaked at number four.
