In the past few months, Macklemore and Ryan Lewis have become the hottest independent rappers in the music game.
Macklemore has gained a significant online fanbase. He has released one mixtape, three EPs and two albums, although none on a major record label. His music video "Thrift Shop" has been viewed on YouTube more than 180 million times, and reached number 1 on the U.S. Billboard Hot 100 chart, selling more than 2.2 million copies.
Macklemore released his debut studio album The Heist on October 9, 2012, which charted at number 2 on the US Billboard 200 chart, selling 78,000 copies in the first week.
"Can't Hold Us" is a 2011 single by Macklemore and Ryan Lewis featuring Ray Dalton taken from their collaborative album The Heist (2012). It was released as the third single from the album on August 16, 2011, after "My, Oh My", "Wing$" and prior to their international hit "Thrift Shop".
The song re-entered the Billboard Hot 100 at #92, on the week ending March 9, 2013. In early 2013, the song was featured in a U.S. television commercial for Microsoft Outlook and features in adverts for the drink Miller. The song was also used in the background of ESPN College Gameday commercials.
