Multi-platinum-selling singer-songwriter Chris Brown has released "Fine China," the lead single and video from his highly anticipated new album, X, due out later this year on RCA Records. The song was made available on all digital service providers on April 2nd.
Rolling Stone hailed "Fine China" as "vintage King-of-Pop falsetto over elastic bass and swinging Eighties funk grooves, it's a hype combination of futuristic and throwback, blended with decidedly old-school romance." Yahoo! lauded "Fine China" as "a soulful, 1970's-inspired track" and said that it's "Brown's most musical sound to date." Ebony praised the song for being "a lush and infectious tune reminiscent of Michael Jackson's "Off the Wall."
Brown, who co-wrote "Fine China" with Sevyn Streeter, Eric Bellinger and Roccstar, told Billboard , "I wanted to touch musically on Michael Jackson, Stevie Wonder and Sam Cooke and incorporate those influences with the new."
Brown and director Sylvain White recently shot the "Fine China" video, which USA Today called "a lavish cinematic treatment with a dazzling mashup of martial arts choreography and dance moves."
In an interview with the Los Angeles Times, Brown discussed the new album, saying, "For this album you get a chance to take a journey with me and listen to every dynamic of who I am, whether it be, the subject matter or the substance in the records."
X sees Brown re-teaming with Diplo (Usher, Britney Spears), who worked on 2011's F.A.M.E, which hit No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and earned Brown a Grammy Award for Best R&B Album. The production team includes Grammy-winning producer Timbaland (David Guetta, Katy Perry, Black Eyed Peas) and Danja (Mary J. Blige, P!nk), both of whom worked on 2012's chart-topping album Fortune, which debuted at No. 1 on both the Billboard Top 200 Albums Chart and Top R&B/Hip-Hop Albums Chart and earned Brown a Grammy nomination for Best Urban Contemporary Album.
Hard to believe it's been eight years since the multi-talented Brown arrived on the scene as a 16-year-old with "Run It!" Since then he's racked up total U.S. album sales of 8 million, six No. 1 singles (two on the Hot 100; four on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs), 11 top 10 Hot 100 singles and 22 top 10 singles on Hot R&B/Hip-Hop Songs. Meanwhile, his total song sales stand at 31.5 million and he has over one billion views on VEVO. Adding the coveted Grammy Award to his collection, Brown is the recipient of over 40 awards, including a Billboard Music Award for Top R&B Artist in addition to the 2012 BET Awards for Best Male R&B Artist and the 2012 MTV Video Music Awards for Best Male Video and Best Choreography for "Turn Up the Music."
