Bonnie McKee
Jul 8, 2013

Even if you don't know Bonnie McKee by name, you know her music. She's the woman behind some of your favorite pop songs from the likes of Britney Spears, Katy Perry and Ke$ha. Now, the chart-topping songwriter is launching her own solo career, and she's taking some of her A-list friends along for the ride.
While it's unclear how she managed to get that many stars from all walks of life in the video, her connection to a number of the cameo-makers is undeniable. She's helped write some of Perry's biggest hits including "Part of Me," "Wide Awake," "Teenage Dream," "Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)" and "California Gurls."
Then last year, she worked with Jepsen on her album Kiss on the song "Turn Me Up." She just worked with Ke$ha on her 2012 release Warrior, including tunes "Supernatural" and "C'Mon." And, she hit the studio with Lambert for two tracks off his Trespassing album, "Cuckoo" and "Chokehold."
Thanks to the A-list cameos, the video had amassed nearly 180,000 views in its first day.
McKee just dropped the video for her high-energy, slightly cheeky single, "American Girl." The video features cameos from Perry (who lies in bed in her PJs while clutching a teddy bear), Adam Lambert, Ke$ha, Taio Cruz and Carly Rae Jepsen, whom she has worked with in the past. It also stars Macklemore, Karmin, Jewel, Becky G, Jason Derulo and Nicole Scherzinger and has some unexpected cameos from Kiss, comedian Joan Rivers, and "Star Trek" star George Takei. And, yes, Bonnie's in the clip too - eating a cheeseburger and a Popsicle, and wearing American flag pants.
