Chvrches
Feb 16, 2014

Glasgow trio, Chvrches, released their highly-anticipated debut LP, The Bones Of What You Believe, on September 24th via Glassnote. Spanning 12 tracks, the album follows the Scottish synth-pop trio's excellent Recover EP, released earlier this year. The LP includes standout tracks like "Recover", "Gun", and "The Mother We Share". The video for their lead single from the album, "The Mother We Share" was directed by SJ Lee. It follows around a depressive-looking girl as she makes her way through a city and eventually finds herself in Chrvrches' electro-brite world.
Frontwoman Lauren Mayberry explained the title's meaning in an interview with Coup De Main:
"That album title is actually a lyric in a song called 'Strong Hand', which is on a bonus version of the record. I think we all like that as a lyric, but then I also think that we like the fact that it could have a double meaning. The idea was that the record itself is a kind of labour of love for us - all our energy and all our passion and all the stuff we believed in is in that record, so you're kind of handing that off to other people, if that makes sense."
Formed in 2011, the group consists of Lauren Mayberry (lead vocals, additional synthesizers), Iain Cook (synthesizers, guitar, bass, vocals), and Martin Doherty (synthesizers, samplers, vocals). Chvrches came fifth on the BBC's Sound of 2013 list of the most promising new music talent.
In 2012 and 2013, Chvrches toured in various countries from Europe (including their home country), USA and Canada. They also performed at various music festivals like SXSW, Field Day, Canadian Music Fest, Sasquatch!, The Great Escape, Firefly Music Festival, Pitch Festival, T in the Park, Electric Picnic. Chvrches were the opening act for Discopolis, School Of Seven Bells, Passion Pit, Two Door Cinema Club and recently, the band is supported Depeche Mode on selected shows during their The Delta Machine Tour.
