BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
WXKB/Ft. Myers Night Jock, WNHT/Ft. Wayne PD, WRBP/Youngstown PD, WGFT/Youngstown Programming Consultant/MD WLTO/Lexington PD
1. What got you into radio?
I started of as a night club DJ in Germany when I was in the Army. When I moved back to the states got an internship with WXKB in Ft. Myers. Two weeks into the internship I walked past the PD in the hallway and was asked, "Hey, you want a job? Ok, you are on tonight at 10"
2. When you were a kid, what did you want to be when you grew up?
I was a math wiz growing up and loved counting money (yes, I was a huge nerd) all I ever wanted to do was be a banker but then as I grew up and got into music that shifted to being a singer, which I was lucky enough to be assigned a special duty assignment as part of the US Army Band & Chorus to be a vocalist for two years touring Europe.
3. What was the biggest change in the move from Ft. Wayne to Lexington?
Honestly the cities are very similar. The downtown skyline look the same, less snow but weather is not too different. Indiana is huge on basketball but U of Kentucky is dropped right in the middle of town and even bigger on basketball. Biggest change is the accent. I'm still getting used to the southern accents.
4. Weren't you in the military? Is relocating pretty much old hat to you?
Moving is getting harder as you get older because you have to think about more than just yourself now. I moved around a lot as a kid and then a lot when in the military but now I have a girlfriend and have to think about her job and think about schools for my son, too.
5. What would probably surprise most people about Lexington?
How many restaurants there are! This is a national test market and from what I am told there are more restaurants per capita than any other city in the U.S. There are three main things to know about Lexington "Basketball, Bourbon, Horses" that is all that matters in life here!
6. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
I can't imagine not doing radio. I really hate doing anything with hard labor. I would probably find an office job somewhere. I thought about law school at one point, too.
7. Lexington is home to the University of Kentucky. What effect does the campus and students have on the station and programming?
Everything is centered on UK Basketball. Every day you will see a minimum of 100 UK shirts. I have never lived in a college town before but I've been to many and it is crazy the amount support they have for the University of Kentucky here. It is "Big Blue Nation"...oh, and Louisville and the color red is the enemy!
8. Have you developed new hobbies since moving to Lexington?
I was always a big fan of good bourbon but now I get some of the best made. Also, I'm still learning to bet on the horses.
9. If you had to eat one type of meal everyday for a month, what would it be?
Italian for sure....pizza and pasta are pretty much what I eat 5 out of 7 days already, so I will stick to it
10. Bigger apocalyptic fear? Clowns or Zombies?
Zombies for sure. Clowns are just silly. I grew up in the Sarasota area with the Ringling Bros. Clown College in my backyard. Plus, if you watch the movie Killer Clowns from Outer Space you will never fear clowns again. LOL
