1. What got you into radio?
Tre Black asking me if I was in college radio after announcing a song on his night time countdown. When he found out I was 15 and only in high school he asked if I ever thought about being in radio. I told him I had been trying for a few years already. He said if I showed up the next day at the station, he would hook me up. I have never looked back since that day. Rest In Peace, Tre. I think about you all the time.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
As sick as it sounds, I wanted to be in radio. I was fascinated with the voice on the radio when I was a kid. I took apart my Fisher Price radio to try and find him. Then when I started to bug the jock and get on air. That adrenaline has been unmatched. I actually still get that feeling on my first break of every show.
3. What's the best thing about doing mornings?
The pressure to perform at my best. I write a few motivational words on my daily rundown to remind me to always "Have Fun," "Focus" and "Evolve."
4. Who was the first radio personality to inspire you to become an air personality?
Tre Black gave me my first shot. However, the on air personalities I admired in no particular order were: The Baka Boyz, Dave Morales, Frank Lozano, Joey Boy, Big Boy. Theo. John London & The House Party, Sway, King Tech, Julio-G, Rick Dees and Ellen K.
5. We're moving into the hot months of summer in Sacramento. What do you do to stay cool?
Merlino's Freeze is my fave spot to grab an Orange slush. Sac-Town is the hub of Nor Cal. In a short amount of time I can be in Tahoe, Reno, SF, Napa, or Yosemite. Not to mention I can go float on the Sacramento or American River.
6. There isn't much that you haven't done in radio. You've done just about every airshift. You've been an MD, APD and PD. Do you also do production and imaging?
Yes. I was taught to be a jack of all trades. I do all the imaging and videos on my social media sites. I do a daily gossip video called "The Break Down." I also do some random stuff for the station overall. I am a NERD, and in my spare time I do things that revolve around my job for fun. I can image, mix, produce beats, and now my video production skills are getting sharper,
7. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
I would work for a TV Station, record label, or a film production company. Entertainment and creativity flow through my veins, naturally.
8. What part of your morning game do you think that you've improved the most? How did you go about making those improvements?
Being brilliant at the basics! It is a constant effort. Especially now in the PPM world. My VP Chad Rufer always says "Leave Them Wanting More".
9. Social media...what are you least favorite Facebook posts that you see on your feed?
I have never been a fan of putting everything out there. I also am not a fan of those who choose to stand on their soap box and preach or troll for likes and comments.
10. Who would be your dream celebrity Facebook friend?
Selma Hayek. That women can GET IT!
Bonus Questions
When you want to impress your wife with your cooking, what do you make for dinner?
LMAO! I just cooked her a grilled cheese and she was in heaven. She is not a picky eater, and very low maintenance.
Who is that one Facebook friend that your wife wishes you didn't have?
I don't have one. She knows my FB is for the show, now my Instagram account is a different story. Ha!
