BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
15 years in radio. I started as a mixer for the Greg & Dre Morning Show at KBOS and then to afternoons mixing for Danny Salas' show. From there to Mixshow Coordinator to Music Director/Production Director. I was told the shelf life of a mixer in radio was 2 to 3 years. They were WRONG.
1. What got you into radio?
Vinyl records and the chance to mix on the radio. That's all I wanted.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
Becoming a mixer on the radio. My 18-year old self would have never imagined that I would be doing this now in 2017.
3. What was it like, emotionally, to make the move from KBOS to your crosstown rival KSEQ?
It's was a hard decision to make but when a company looks at you as a number and not a valuable employee you have to make a choice. Plus, I had the chance to work with Greg Hoffman, Andre Covington, Danny Salas, Kimberly Marquez, Dub and Righteous Ray. I took a leap of faith and found a new home
4. Not only did you work for KSEQ PD Greg Hoffman at KBOS, didn't you also work with KSEQ APD Danny Salas? Anyone else we should know about?
Yes, I did work with Danny Salas for a long time. He has been a mentor to me in the business for many years. Andre Covington and I have also worked together. He's always the funniest guy in the room.
5. It's about to get hot in Fresno. What do you do to stay cool?
With kids, you have the movie theatre or trips to Pismo or San Francisco.
6. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
I think I would be doing some warehouse jobs and still doing mobile dj gigs and keep telling myself I'll get a shot at radio...lol
7. What do you and your kids do in your spare time?
Lately, I've been trying to learn how to play Minecraft. They run circles around me when it comes to games. We also spend a lot of time riding our bikes at the park or playing soccer.
8. Your kids are growing up fast. How old are they now? How has being a parent helped you be a radio programmer?
My daughter is 9 and my son is 6. Seeing how much effect music has on them helps me look more into the songs I wouldn't think our listeners would like.
9. If you had to eat one type of meal everyday for a month, what would it be?
I'm going to have to say Mexican. I'm learning to make new dishes right and I'm hooked.
10. I used to ask, "Boxers or Briefs?" Now that I'm working on becoming Mr. DIY, I've changed that up to "Home Depot or Lowe's"?
Home Depot. Right now, my power tool collection is amazing!
