BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Serving quality radio since '99. Houston, Albuquerque, Los Angeles, Dallas and now Phoenix, are all places myself and the Crisco Kidd Block Party have called home on this amazing radio trip and I've loved every minute of it!
1. What got you into radio
My LOVE for music and the mic. I didn't know about the power of our platform until later; helping and serving our communities is what we should all be really excited about.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
Actually, I always knew I wanted to be on the radio and DJ since I visited a radio station on a Cub Scouts field trip and again, when I sat in a radio/tv panel at the Hispanic Career Day at the GRB Convention Center in 7th grade.
3. You're back in afternoons now after a run in morning drive. Miss anything about mornings?
Yeah, caffeine addiction and no sleep! Seriously though, the longer, in-depth conversations where I could really share more of myself and learn more about the listeners. There truly is no connection like an am drive with your audience. But, don't get it twisted, our afternoon listeners are just as appreciated, we just don't have as much time to spend with them.
4. Say you win $700 million in a Powerball drawing. Three things you would do within the first three months?
- INVEST in Property (Real/Intellectual).
- INVEST in Platforms (media, social media, etc.) and
- INVEST in People.
5. In a given day, what probably gets the smiles out of you?
Besides a good taco... knowing that I made a difference in at least one person's life, personally or profesionally.
6. You're on Bachelor In Paradise...do you think it's possible to find "the one"?
HELL NAW!
7. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
Well, I actually own a few small businesses now so, I would strengthen those (marketing, creative, education) and focus on more philanthropy and people building.
8. We know your radio job keeps you very busy but what do you like to do in spare time you have?
You nailed it. If I do have spare time, I like reading and research. I'm actually a nerd when it comes to studying the WHY's and HOW's of people and the way we all are, where we have been and where we are going.
9. I asked about Bachelor In Paradise but If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?
Back in the day, I would have said MTV's Real World but now (don't judge me), it would actually be a soap opera... Young and the Restles. SMH
10. Who were/are some of your radio mentors or influences?
From programmers like Homie Marco, Pete Manriquez, Cindy Hill, Brian "Big Bear" Davis and Mikey Fuentes to jocks like Charles Chavez, Mike Pierce, G Man, Jammin' Jimmy Olson, Mean Green, and Dana Cortez. Each person I mentioned is someone I respect for not only their talent in what they do but for believing in myself and my brand and I am thankful for their friendship and advice in my career. (I KNOW I forgot a few but, I've been planning Hurricane Harvey relief drives in three states, forgive me. Charge it to my fried brain and not my heart.)
Bonus Questions
Bucket list vacation spot?
Atlantis and not the resort.
Powerball winning ticket or Super power of your choice?
Oh, Powerball winning ticket most definately. With money like Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne, who needs a super power?!
