BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
Started out as an intern on the street team at KXJM. I worked my way up to Street Team Captain, Promotions Assistant and Part-Time On-Air. I bumped up to Promotions Director, and added APD/MD stripes. I got the bump to PD about a year ago.
1. What got you into radio?
It was by accident, actually. I mistakenly put down the wrong course ID in my senior year in high school and got put into a Telecommunications class. I was going to drop it, but loved it and ended up studying communications with emphasis on radio broadcasting after high school.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
Professional athlete, but wasn't good enough. Architect, but too much math. Pilot, but clearly went a different route.
3. Was there an "a ha moment" when you realized that you wanted to be a program director?
I loved being involved with promotions and creating events but always had a passion for being involved in the product itself. Started working with my PD and OM when I was in promotions and and "caught the bug" then.
4. You program KXJM in Portland and KUBE in Seattle. What's probably the most significant difference between the two stations?
Besides, the obvious 2 different markets... the stations are very different. Both are Top 40/Rhythmic or Rhythm/CHR format but KXJM is a very throwback/era based station (with some current hits), and KUBE is a current based that leans Urban.
5. Do you see a significant difference in the target audiences of the two markets?
KUBE is primarily angled towards the younger 20's audience and KXJM is geared towards the early-mid 30's consumer
6. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
Probably in Marketing or PR.
7. We know your radio job keeps you very busy but what do you like to do in spare time you have?
I have young kids so love spending time with my family and exploring our region. But always enjoy a good hang with friends or cheering on my Oregon Ducks or Trail Blazers too.
8. Who were/are some of your radio mentors?
I learned everything from a few talented people. Off the top of my head - Mark Adams, Tim Herbster, Justin Riley, Chris Patyk, PK and Bootz.
9. Who outside of radio or music inspires you personally and/or professionally?
I've always been a fan of Mark Cuban. Dude is one of the hardest working and most humble people in the world.
10. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?
Price Is Right. No question.
Bonus Questions
If you had to eat one type of meal every day for a month, what would it be?
