10 Questions with ... Vinny Foo

BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:

Started my career in 2003 in Tampa as a mixer at WFLZ. That lasted about a year and was more than enough to catch the radio bug! I was still based in Tampa mixing in clubs and pursuing my next move. In 2009, I landed the night show gig on WXKB/Fort Myers-Naples. In 2013, I was let go from WXKB and started mixing for WZJZ/ Fort Myers-Naples. In 2014, I landed anther night show gig on WTMG in the Gainesville/Ocala market. Within months, I was promoted to Music Director and Afternoon Drive. In 2016, I was promoted to Program Director and I now live, eat, and breathe the Gainesville/Ocala radio market lifestyle.

1. What got you into radio?

I was a percussionist in high school, which lead me right into becoming a mixer.

2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?

My parents had it stuck in my head that I was going to be a doctor or lawyer! LOL!

3. What's the first job related thing you do in the morning?

Look at the Mediabase charts and social media.

4. How closely do you watch social media for music related things?

VERY closely! I can physically see real reaction from listeners in market.

5. I would guess that most "outsiders" hear "Florida" and think Miami. What's different about Miami and Gainesville?

The biggest difference is the Hispanic demographic is way less in Gainesville than Miami. That means there's less Hispanic food up here, and I love Hispanic food!

6. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?

I would be a super model or fishing charter guide!

7. You are more than just a casual fisherman. How often are you out on the water fishing?

Every weekend, work and weather permitting.

8. How does fishing help you?

It's my release from everyday stress. My better half, Vanessa, and I get on the water and just fish. We put away our phones, unless to take a quick pic, and just relax! It really recharges my mind and motivates me when I come into work every day.

9. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?

Chopped! All day!

10. You have a baby on the way. Have you picked a name?

YES I DO, but I can't tell yet!

Have you sought advice from others about how being a father will affect you professionally?

One of my best friends, Jason Jones (Big Mama WXKB), has been giving me advice since day one. He just had another baby (Congrats again Biggs) and has been giving me quite a bit of advice!

If you had to eat one type of meal every day for a month, what would it be?

Vietnamese food...duh!
