10 Questions with ... John Magic

1. What got you into radio?

I don't know why exactly, but I vividly remember impersonating radio DJs when I was younger. Then hearing DJ Icy Ice and DJ E Man on the radio, and finding out they were Filipino like me, made me want to be in this industry even more.

2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?

A stuntman! I was in awe when I watched the cowboy stunt show at Knott's Berry Farm and the A-Team stunt show at Universal Studios in the 80s.

3. On the surface, what's the biggest difference between living/working in Fresno and living/working in the Inland Empire?

Not that much of a difference, to be honest. Each has its positives and negatives. If I had to pick something though, it would be the cost of living. I'm ballin' in Fresno (not really, I work in radio for goodness sake).

4. What would probably surprise most people about Fresno?

Every time my friends from LA come to visit, they are always impressed on how many beautiful women live here, lol. Also, that it's only an hour and a half drive to Yosemite.

5. Who are/were some of your radio mentors?

I interned for Bobby Sato in the 90s at KGGI, and I learned A LOT from him. Also, when I worked at KPWR, Felli Fel was an inspiration and mentor. On the imaging side, Justin Credible and Sketchomatic were who I looked up to.

6. How much mixing are you doing on air now?

Weekdays, I'm the mixer for CK and Carmen in the morning. I also do a mixing shift Saturday nights, too.

7. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?

A stuntman!

8. We know your radio job keeps you very busy but what do you like to do in spare time you have?

I'm a pro at napping. But recently I've been hiking a lot and working out. Also, I love to cook when I have the time.

9. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?

It's not on air anymore, but you can see me in the background of an episode of 'The Hills.' I miss that show. As far a game show, I would want to be on 'The Match Game.'

If you could have one superpower for a week, what would it be?

To not feel the hurt when your heart is broken...just kidding...I want to FLY!
