BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started off as a parttime board operator 13 years ago. I bounced around the station doing many jobs around the office (street team, board op, etc). I got my first chance behind the mic doing overnights and weekends for AM 570 in Las Cruces. A few months later, I started doing weekends for Hot 103.1. After three years of doing weekends and being the fill in jock when others went on vacation, I got asked to join the morning show. Hard work and dedicated over the years led to me becoming Program Director.
1. What got you into radio?
My first summer of living in Las Cruces, I used to work for the Horticulture department at New Mexico State. One day while working and listening to HOT 103, I actually heard a "we're hiring" commercial. I always thought how cool it would be to work with the people that I hear having fun on the radio.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
Growing up, I wanted to be a chef or a professional break dancer. I'm still keeping my options open!
3. Can describe your hometown, Animas, NM?
Small farm town, easy going, and some of the hardest working people you will ever come across.
4. How did you end up going to college at New Mexico State and what did you study?
After high school I moved to Las Cruces to go to NMSU to study journalism/broadcasting. I originally wanted to do something with sports broadcasting.
5. What would probably surprise most people about Las Cruces?
We hold the record for the largest Enchilada ever made and we recently broke the record for the largest nachos ever assembled!
6. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
Somehow, I couldn't see myself not being in radio. If anything, I would be in television doing behind the scenes work.
7. You also host the morning show on Hot 103. What's the key to your time management?
Starting my day at 4:30 am really helps. While you work, everyone else is asleep. While we are on-air, my partner Jackie and I make sure that our show is the main focus. After 10 am, I'm able to handle the meetings, phone calls and meet deadlines before I'm out the door. If all else fails, four cups of coffee will do the trick!
8. What would your morning co-host, Jackie say is her biggest pet peeve ABOUT you?
When I'm using the restroom, Jackie will knock on the door and as me a question and I never respond. We apparently have no boundaries.
9. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?
Big Brother! I think I could dominate that show!
10. American Idol, The Voice or The Four?
The Voice!
Bonus Questions
If you had to eat one type of meal every day for a month, what would it be?
