1. What got you into radio?
I love music!!! I love the idea of being able to give people an escape from their day to day life by putting on a great playlist & entertaining radio show to help up-lift their mood!
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
Well, I actually had hoop dreams. When I got cut from the team in the 11th grade I quickly realized I didn't have what it takes to compete at that level. I took the energy and disappointment I had from not making the team and put it all into music. It was another dream that everyone told me would never happen, but unlike basketball, I knew that if I worked my ass off and stayed focused, I could make it to the top.
3. How does it feel being on the air in your hometown and on such an influential radio station?
It's just a dream come true to have all of the pieces finally lining up. I had three separate dreams when it came to music. 1) to produce top tier music. 2) to have my own radio show and 3) to DJ at all the hottest clubs in the country. I'm extremely grateful to be able to do all three at a high level.
4. What do you remember the most about your first air shift?
I was super nervous. I remember thinking to myself, "this isn't as easy as these guys make it sound." I was also excited and I instantly knew that this is what I want to be doing with my life. I had finally found a job where my off the wall energy actually helped me succeed.
5. Who were/are some of your radio and music mentors?
In terms of musical inspirations, I would study the people who created empires for themselves beyond just the music. I watched every move Puff Daddy made and took notes. Jermaine Dupree, Dr. Dre, all those guys.
In terms of radio, I have to shout out DJ E-Man, DJ Franzen, DJ Felli Fell, Eric Delux, Sourmilk, and man, there are so many that I couldn't even name them all. But I'm thankful for every one of them.
6. How did L.A. Leakers get started?
Me and a few other young creatives were trying to think of ways to utilize all our talents and help build each other up. It was me Sourmilk, Ryan Deelon and Mando Fresko. We had the idea of creating a mixtape for a clothing brand we were working with at the time called Orisue. We needed a title for it and we had this concept to call ourselves the LA Leakers. The mixtape got such a good reception that we thought we should do this as a crew. From there, the LA Leakers were born. We've taken major pride in giving a platform to young artists on the rise.
7. If you weren't in radio/music, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
Besides playing in the NBA? Haha, I would definitely be working in fashion. Whether that would be owning my own streetwear store or designing a line, that's where I would want to be. I'm starting to dip my foot in the water now because I love clothing so much, so we'll see where it goes.
8. What do you like to do in your spare time?
Truthfully, I research a lot about my passions. I'm always trying to learn new things about music, radio, fashion, marketing. Anything I'm interested in, I'll spend hours looking up. But when I relax, I like to try new foods at restaurants, I enjoy going to sports games, and I have a sneaker fetish, so I'm always shopping for new shoes.
9. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?
I think I would do well on Jeopardy, but only in the music and sports categories. haha!
10. What was the last TV show that you binge watched?
I've been watching Power and Ballers a lot lately. Everybody kept telling me to watch Euphoria so I finally caved and I was surprised how good it was. In terms of binge watching, I recently went through the entire Meek Mill documentary and that was really eye-opening.
Bonus Questions
If you had to eat one type of meal every day for a month, what would it be?
Probably sushi! I try to stay to with light meals before I go on air and sushi always hits the spot. Plus, there are so many different kinds that I feel like I wouldn't get tired of it easily.
What's at or near the top of your personal "bucket list"?
Performing at Coachella, producing a number one record, or even a top 10 record...As long as it's the song of the YEAR! Designing my own clothing line and traveling the world.
