BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
WDWD(Radio Disney)/Atlanta
KISV/Bakersfield - weekends/overnights
KKXX/Bakersfield - middays/nights/Music Director/APD (voicetracking KFFM)
KSRT/Santa Rosa - PD
1. What got you interested in Radio?
I met a promotions guy for Radio Disney while in Atlanta. He said "Hey you should be in radio" and I said "Hey, you should come up with a better pick up line". I gave him my number....he called and the rest is history.
2. You’ve transitioned from MD to APD/MD and now to the PD chair at KSRT. What’s the biggest change in your day since making jump to PD?
All weight is resting on my shoulders and I feel the pressure but that's what drives me.
3. As close as Santa Rosa is to San Francisco, how much bleed in do you get from KYLD and KMEL?
Both bleed into Santa Rosa. KMEL comes in crystal clear. DAMMIT MAN! I compete with the talent and budget of market 4!
4. How does California’s high cost of living effect hiring?
It makes it extremely hard to get talent here. I'm living in wine country and it's beautiful but the cost of living is out of control.
5. Where do you see yourself in five years?
To still be in California. I would love to work in San Diego and my dream station is KYLD in San Francisco.
6. Who do you consider to be your mentor(s)?
Michael Martin changed the way I looked at programming. He gave me confidence and brought out the drive I have now. I also have learned so much from Nick Elliott and Don Cristi. Now, I get to work with the great Dave Shakes, Benji Kurtz, and Michael Newman. I'm a lucky girl!
7. Where do you get your energy?
I don't know. You either love me or hate me. You would think getting to the station at 5:30 am every morning, I would lose some of my "spunk" but the Starbucks drive-thru opens at 5:30am.
8. You have been able to work with some of the best programming minds in the business. You are working with DAVE SHAKES at RESULTS RADIO. Prior to that, you worked closely with MICHAEL MARTIN when you were at KKXX/BAKERSFIELD.
Who’s the better dancer and what’s the biggest difference in their management styles?
Regarding the dancing.... I haven't danced with either of them but I just had a talk with Michael Martin and he says and I quote " I'm quite the good dancer".
Their management styles are very similar. Both believe in developing and grooming "new" talent. Both are very hands on with all areas of the station, from jocks, to where we are on the streets to weekend giveaways.
9. Your VP/GM tells you that you’ve got an additional $50,000 in the programming budget for the remainder of 2005. Where do you spend it?
A station "coche", raises for my VERY HARD WORKING staff and the rest for promotions.
10. If you were to leave Radio today and you could choose any other occupation, what would it be? (An ale-serving wench at Medieval Times is not an option.)
Damn you Pete Jones! I love Medieval Times! I would most likely try to get back into television or get into record promotion.
Bonus Questions
A freak gravitational shift has added three hours to everyday. What would you do with those extra three hours?
Spend more time with my boyfriend and SLEEP.
