1. What got you into radio?
It was being "told" to emcee a high school assembly. I was 17, my only experience of speaking in front of large groups came from reading aloud in kindergarten. I was scared...for 3 days. Hosted it and got the "taste" of a positive reaction and then thought to myself, “I can do this”. TV was the first thought but realized that looks play a major part of that. Radio it is!
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
Starting from the age of 5, I laid carpet with my dad. CPS didn't really do a lot of enforcement during this era. I thought I was going to be a good Asian kid and take over the business. So after kicking carpet every summer and weekend, my dreams were limited to the weekends.
3. You have been in San Diego for a while now. What's your favorite thing about living/working in America's Finest City?
The cool ocean breeze, food and non-stop flights to Hawaii and Vegas. Working here is awesome. I've got a GREAT G.M. My S/SV/PDs and APDs trust and believe in my creativity. Being a talent, that's what you can hope and dream for, right?
4. What has the Covid-19 pandemic taught you about yourself?
Alcohol and Quarantine/Stay At Home Orders do not mix.
5. What would probably surprise most people about San Diego?
I will let you know when we can talk to people again.
6. Aren't you something of a production geek? Got anything going on production-wise, besides your baby?
Working with great programmers and voice talents. I'm at 15 stations and voicing a few. Believe it or not I've got a great alternative VO demo or, so I was told by the 6 PDs who responded, out of the 80 emails I sent out. lol
7. What would you tell 18-year-old Pablo Sato?
Bitcoin. Doge. GameStop. Get Wife Pregnant in 2019. So, 2020 you can spend every day with baby working from home. Oh, and have multiple streams of income that come from something you enjoy doing.
8. What do you miss the most about Hawaii?
Family, food and free babysitters.
9. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
Be on my knees for the better part of my day laying carpet.
10. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?
Name That Tune or Beat Shazam. just to see how far I could get. But I would tell people my occupation was a carpet installer. It would be a shame if I didn't win especially if the category was "Shaggy's Greatest Hits"
