Teaching or Motivational Speaker-
BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started off as a Promo Assistant (Street Team) for WLLD (WiLD 94.1)/Tampa. I grew from there to broadcast tech, board-op, Swing/PT On-Air Talent, over my first year. I stayed with the company from 2014-2020, then the pandemic struck, and like most I stayed at home wondering when or if I would be back at work. Then through a series of great events and connections I landed here at my current station, WTMG.
1. What got you into radio?
I feel like I was born to do it. I used to watch old home movies and I would cut 'commercial breaks' and narrate. Also, listening to "The Man" Stan Bell growing up V101.1 in Memphis, hearing how much fun he would have on-air let me know THIS is what I want to do.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
Besides a Power Ranger (I still hold out hope), exactly this. I love radio.
3. What was the biggest change in the move from Tampa to Gainesville?
The pace. Tampa is a growing city, championships are being won there and news is being made there almost daily, weekly, monthly. Here when school is out the pace slows down, almost like a break, but it gives you time to retool and review how you go about things.
4. Has the pandemic taught or shown you something about yourself?
Yes, when to apply pressure and when to be patient. Michael Jordan said it best, "Let the game come to you." I'm learning that first-hand. I started working more on my IG (@CamThatDude) and joined TikTok (@CamThaDude).
5. Gainesville has a vibrant scene as the home of the Univ. Of Florida Gators. Generally, does it keep you young or make you feel “mature”?
Young- Seeing people younger than myself, I see the things I USED to do and say. Finding out about the music and artists that are different from my own personal taste.
6. What would probably surprise most people about Gainesville?
The local scenes in general. The different holes-in-the-wall, the stand-up comedy scene, the culture is unique sometimes a city slicker vibe, and others the big country energy
7. Who are some of your radio mentors?
SOME? You’re really handcuffing me here. LOL.
J.J. Paone- He hired me and pushed me to learn everything as much as possible as fast as possible, but always remember "The Devil is in the details."
Tom Davis- Never slack. The second I think I can 'rest' on my laurels, the competition will get better
Orlando Davis- People are always watching and listening. It's my job to give them something to stick around for.
Bootleg Kev- That betting on yourself is most important above all. When people say no, it just means they aren't ready for your vision.
8. What's your favorite song on the station right now?
Any record I get to break. Seriously, Top 3
Tyler, The Creator- Wusyaname
Bruno Mars, Anderson .Paak, Silk Sonic- Leave The Door Open Normani - Wild Side feat. Cardi B9. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
Teaching or Motivational Speaker
10. What do you like to do in your spare time? Any new hobbies since the start of the pandemic?
During the pandemic, a lot of reading. "The Four Agreements," "The Subtle Art Of Not Giving a F**ck," "Make Your Bed: Little Things That Can Change Your Life... And Maybe The World" by Admiral William H. McRaven.
I also started back up with stand-up comedy.
