A concert photographer! Pre-Pandemic provided a lot of content opportunities for the station, and I absolutely loved being right in the middle of every experience!-
BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
My journey in the radio industry began as an intern for MyTownMedia at KBIK and KIND in Independence, KS. Later, I relocated to Wichita to attend Butler Community College, where I took on the role of Station Manager at the college radio station while pursuing my education.
During this time, I also joined Entercom (Audacy) as the overnight news anchor for KNSS. After graduating, exciting opportunities opened up as I was offered the evening time slots at KDGS and KFBZ. However, my radio career took an unexpected pause due to the COVID-19 pandemic, but in July 2022, I reconnected with KDGS for the midday show.
As the world recovered from the pandemic, I seized additional DJ opportunities, including performing downtown. Recently, I was named the Wichita Winds Surge On-Field Host and MC! It's been a journey of growth and resilience, and I'm excited to continue pursuing my passion in the radio and entertainment industry.
1. What got you into radio?
Do you remember back in high school when they made you take a career aptitude test to see what career would best fit you? Radio Host / Emcee was the number one answer for me. As a high schooler, our "internships" were the only way to get out of school for a period of time. So, I had annoyed the staff at MyTownMedia enough to convince them to let me sit in the studio for my internship.
2. What did you dream of becoming when you were a kid?
I was a band nerd most of high school and wanted to become a music teacher of some sort!
3. Your radio work has been in the Midwest. Is that a personal preference?
I grew up in southeast Kansas. The "big city" for us was to go down to Tulsa or over to Wichita. I love being close to home, but whenever I visit a larger city, I dream of living there with bigger opportunities!
4. Are you ready for summer? What's your favorite part of summer?
Is my body ready for summer? - NO.
Is my mind ready for summer? - ABSOLUTELY.Summer means the patio bars open up and I'm able to DJ for more people!
5. What would probably surprise most people about Wichita?
Wichita, known as the "Air Capital of the World," has a vibrant aviation history that surprises many. It houses major aircraft manufacturers like Spirit AeroSystems and Bombardier Learjet, making it a significant player in the aerospace industry.
6. If you weren't in radio, what do you think you'd be doing professionally?
A concert photographer! Pre-Pandemic, provided a lot of content opportunities for the station and I absolutely loved being right in the middle of every experience!
7. You own a business. How long have you owned and run the business? How does managing a business help you as a team member at Power 93.5?
I've been running my own business for about five years now. It's been a wild ride, with its fair share of highs and lows, but overall, it's been incredibly fulfilling. Being a business owner has taught me so much, and those lessons have really translated well into my role as a team member at Power 93.5. I bring that entrepreneurial spirit to our team, always looking for fresh ideas and ways to take us to the next level. Being able to mix live at street events, bringing that needed energy, has helped tremendously.
8. If you could be on any TV reality show or game show, which would you want to be on?
I'd love to be on "Big Brother"! Games, breaks from work, and making friends—sounds amazing! Only problem...I talk too much, which could mean alliances against me. But hey, that's part of the fun, right?
9. Who would your fiancée pick to play "Zeb" in a Netflix series about your life?
She immediately said, "Chris Pratt". I can see it! Maybe not the looks, but the attitude and goofiness are 100% me.
10. Who were/are some of your radio mentors?
The Sultan of Slowjamastan, "Rdub"! Seeing his journey of syndication and even starting his own country, which I am a citizen, has been awesome to see! He has always answered my calls and DMs, unlike others...
Bobby Bones! The ability to grow his name outside of radio with DWTS, being an author, and numerous TV hosting gigs has been inspiring.
Bonus Questions
If you had to eat one type of meal every day for a month, what would it be? (Mexican, Italian..etc)
It would definitely have to be Mexican. There's just something about that margarita and queso combo that hits my soul.
You are alone and stuck on a deserted island. You have a shit-ton of batteries and a portable entertainment center featuring a DVD/CD player. You only have 3 movies and 3 albums for the next 3 months. What 3 movies and CDs would you want on hand?
I would have to bring the first two CDs that I ever bought! LMFAO's "Party Rock" and "Sorry for Party Rocking".
My third CD would be "That's What I Call Music #20" Lose Control, Don't Cha, and Pon De Replay to name a few. Iconic.
As for DVDs, I'm not a movie guy... Can I trade for more music?
