NAME:Tattoo DavePOSITION:Morning personalitySTATION:KPWR and Big Boy's NeighborhoodMARKET:Los Angeles and nationally syndicatedCOMPANY:Emmis and ABC Radio NetworksBORN:Monterey Park, CARAISED:East LA, CA
BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
KPWR (Power 106) and Big Boy's Neighborhood - off and on from 2001
1. How did you get started in radio?
I was actually a listener to Big Boy's Neighborhood in the morning and he was doing a contest "What Would You Do For Lakers Tickets." It was 2001 when the Lakers were playing the Spurs in the playoffs. I tattooed "I Slept with Shaq" across my forehead, won the tickets and next thing you know I'm on the radio. Crazy, huh? I love it.
2. Once the pain fades...have you ever done a stunt that you regretted doing?
I never regretted a stunt, it's what I do. I have felt some pain, oh yeah!
3. Does Big and the rest of the Neighborhood know what is out of bounds for you, stunt-wise? Care to share where the line is drawn?
Yeah, I think they all know what I don't like, but I don't think they care! Ha-ha! But I'll never put Tapatio hot sauce in my eyes again, unless like my job was on the line or something, or if it would impress Kim Kardashian.
4. In one sentence, what do you see yourself bringing to the Neighborhood?
The party from last night to the morning, real painful stories of my life that everyone can laugh at, even myself!
5. Do you have a relationship with former Neighborhood member, Joe Grande?
No, not really, but he is a great guy!
6. Has Big Boy ever jumped in your ish for something you said or did on air? What did you do/say?
Oh yeah! He doesn't like it when I talk bad about the big women. I call them tortas! There was this one particular time I remember when I first started my segment "Tattoo's Top 5" (the 5 things making me mad this week). George Takei from Star Trek was in the news and I said a few words that weren't the most appropriate and I got so checked by Big! And, of course, our producer Jason, was all over me, too. I'll never say that again.
7. What did you think radio stations were like before you were introduced to radio at Power 106?
I used to listen a lot to all kinds of different radio stations because I love all kinds of music, but most of the time you hear radio talent and they all sound the same. When you hear certain personalities that stand out, you know, ahh, that's Big Boy or that's Howard Stern, they stand out. That's how I want people to feel when they hear me, like that's Tattoo from Big Boy's Neighborhood
8. Obviously you make appearances with The Neighborhood here in Los Angeles with Power 106. Have you had a chance to visit some of the markets the show is on around the country?
So far, I've been to San Diego. It was a dope visit. We have some trips set for Houston and other markets. I heard Houston has some great strip clubs.
9. What does your family think of your gig with Big Boy's Neighborhood?
They love it. My mom thinks some of the things I do are a little too much, but that's moms, and my family thinks I have more money than I really do. They never believe me when I tell them how much I really make, but they love it.
10. If you could pick one guest to come spend the morning in the Neighborhood...who would you pick?
I've met pretty much everyone I admire, very grateful for that, but there's one actor I'd love to meet - Sylvester Stallone, Rocky Balboa. Haaa!! I'm so serious too.
Bonus Questions
If you could be on a reality TV show which would you want to be on?
I would love to be on the Kardashian's reality show again. I'd love to be like the guy who mows her lawn everyday! Get a lil sneaky peeky at her backside all morning. Or maybe Hell's Kitchen cause I love to eat, and there's always good food on that show and if that guy ever yelled at me the way he does to those poor cooks, I'd love to beat his ass!
