BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
KWIN/KWNN-Midday on air & Music Director for about 6-7 years. (Stockton, CA)
KZQX-Part time weekends/Fill in on air for 2 years. (San Francisco, CA)
KMEL-Interned for the legendary Rick Chase for 1 year (R.I.P) (San Francisco, CA)
Arista Records- Internship with Lance Walden for 1 year. (San Francisco, CA)
Bay Area Hip Hop Coalition/ABB Records-Interned with Benni B for two years. (Oakland, CA)1. What was your last non-Industry job?
I've been fortunate enough to always have been doing radio.
2. What got you interested in Radio?
The music and the hustle. I love everything that comes with radio; your on air shift, breaking a record for the first time in your market, or putting together that perfect promotion. In radio, we don't talk about it, we just make it happen. It's a constant hustle that keeps me on my toes.
3. If you weren't in Radio, what do you think you'd be doing with your life?
Real estate-no doubt!
4. How has the adjustment from living in Northern Cali to Atlanta gone?
The people I work with here at the Beat have been nothing but great, and the listeners are freaking nuts! The Atl really does have southern hospitality; even my flea market folks have shown me love. lol!
5. As a California girl new to ATLANTA...what about ATLANTA would probably surprise most people?
Waffle houses on every block, barely any taco trucks and you have to search to find lumpia. Oh yeah, and real estate is insane, you actually get a REAL yard, were talking acres, not just a foot, but acres of freaking land. I've seen soccer fields in the backyards of some homes out here. If we had that much land in Cali, we would think the real estate agent was on crack.
6. Where do you see yourself in five years?
San Francisco
7. Who do you consider to be your mentor(s)?
JOHN CHRISTIAN, LANCE WALDEN, DOUG PARKER, MICHAEL NEWMAN and CAGLE.
8. You were APD/MD at KWIN...do you miss the programming management part of the gig?
Hell Yeah. Everyday! There is this feeling that every programmer gets when they hear a record for the first time, and they know that it's going to be a smash for YOUR market. You play it and watch it develop into something bigger than life. I miss putting together that perfect promotion, talking with your record folks about records you know you will never play, or maybe you will. I Miss every aspect of management even the red tape, without red tape, it just wouldn't be radio.
9. What do you see as Cagle's best quality as a PD?
His work ethic. He's non-stop and he takes care of his people. He is an everyday normal person, not some PD with an ego. But, you want to get on his good side, send him a watch, he will love you forever!
10. If you had to exist on one type of food for 6 months, what would it be?
Lumpia & Tostados!
Bonus Questions
A freak gravitational shift has added three hours to everyday. What would you do with those extra three hours?
I would add an oldies love jam show on the station.
