BRIEF CAREER SYNOPSIS:
I started as an intern/board up at KIIZ/Killeen in 1991. From there, on to KHFI/AUSTIN as Overnight Host from '94 - '97 then KTFM/San Antonio for weekends/swing from '97 to '98. I did Nights and was Music Coordinator at KQBT/Austin from '98 to '00. MD/Nights at KBBT/San Antonio in '00, then upped to APD/Afternoons in 2003. In 2005 PD of KCOR-FM and still maintaining the afternoon drive on KBBT.
1. What was your last non-Industry job?
Taco Bell drive-thru.
2. What got you interested in Radio?
While in college my roommate PAUL LAWRENCE was interning at KIIZ, he told me of an opening and I took it and found out that this is definitely what I want to do for the rest of my life
3. You've recently been promoted to PD of sister station, Latin Urban KCOR-FM (La Kalle 95.1). What's the station all about?
It's about the young Latino who is bilingual loves the urban lifestyle and it's music, including the growing popularity of the Reggaeton genre.
4. What's a typical day like for you as MD/afternoons at KBBT and PD of KCOR?
I check my emails as soon as I come in and return phone calls I didn't get to the previous day. I get together with my Programming Assistant MALENA SANCHEZ to make sure everything is being taken care of for LA KALLE programming including liners, promos and more. At 10am go over that day's morning show with my APD/Morning jock BIGG BOYEE. I have meetings/conference calls through out the day with sales, clients and Univision Radio programming gurus. At 2pm, I do show prep for my afternoon show, go on air at 3pm. At 7pm go home to my family. I grab some lunch somewhere in there as well. My day is full but I'm learning time management.
5. Where do you see yourself in five years?
Moving up through the programming ranks here at UNIVISION RADIO. This is a great company to work for and I hope to be with for a long time to come. I'd like to eventually be the VP/Programming for UNIVISION RADIO…look out JD!!
6. Who do you consider to be your mentor(s)?
My mentors are RICK THOMAS, JD GONZALEZ, PETE MANRIQUEZ and JOHN ROBERTS.
7. What's your favorite thing about living and working in SAN ANTONIO?
The culture and people here are like one big family, it's a big city with a small town feel, and of course, the World Champion San Antonio Spurs!!!
8. In 2006, what area of your "game" do you want to improve?
Time management.
9. If you were to leave Radio today and you could choose any other occupation, what would it be?
I'd love to be a CSI.
10 . What's your dream market?
Chicago

A freak gravitational shift has added three hours to everyday. What would you do with those extra three hours?
I'd spend more time with my family. Family always comes first.
