1. What got you into radio?
I'm too ugly for T.V.... also growing up in Southern Cali, but having a lot of family in the Bay area... I heard a lot of very different, very awesome radio growing up. It was very inspiring.
2. Not unlike many stations in this tough economy, you're running with a very lean staff. How do you get it all done?
I'm pretty amazed. On WiLD 106 I'm the program director, music director, promotions director, street team, morning show, afternoon jock, imaging, I'm the station voice, I do the mix at noon everyday... and we're stomping stations that have full staffs with individual people for each of those positions. I get it all done with a combo of Redbull and good ol' fashioned passion.
3. You're also programming two stations now. Are you having fun with the second station?
Definitely! It's tough with everything on my plate to spend as much time as I would like with our classic hits station (95.3 The Beach). It was kind of bruised and bleeding when I inherited it, but it's finding its place in the market nicely now.
4. How is programming the second station helping you develop your skills as a PD?
With the economy being what it is, being able to be a REAL multi purpose kind of guy has kept me employed this long. If I can balance all this... just imagine if I did like 6 or 7 less things everyday... I'd be AWESOME!
5. When you think about your radio future, where do you see yourself in five years?
I leave that in the hands of the radio Gods... they know who they are. I'm waiting for your call. I love radio, and I'm not jumping off the radio ship anytime soon.
6. Other than a stint doing mornings in Las Vegas, you've been in California your entire career. What other markets may interest a Cali born and raised PD/air personality in relocating?
In my perfect dream world... L.A., SF, San Diego, Sacramento... but I'll never say never to the right opportunity, wherever that may be.
7. Hypothetical situation...you are getting married in six months. Who would you like to be the your "Wedding Singer"?
Very hypothetical situation... not anytime soon... I used to think K-Ci and JoJo would be awesome, until I saw that video where K-Ci passed out during a show... I'm gonna go with Keith Sweat.
8. What do you think you'd be doing professionally right now if you hadn't gone into Radio?
It has never crossed my mind. I knew I wanted to do radio since I was a kid. It used to make my Mom pretty mad. She wanted me to be a lawyer... Lawyers don't get free CDs. I think I made the right call.
9. I know you have pretty brutal work schedule. What do you like to do with the little free time that you do have?
Same as most people. Mindless reality TV shows, going to the movies, long walks on the beach... I like riding my bicycle... for fun! I'm such a nerd.
10. On a professional level, who in radio would you like to network with that you don't already network with?
It's interesting... with all the facebooks, twitters, and social networking Web sites out there... It makes it a lot easier to do just that... quickly and easily. I realize a lot of people in this business are just a busy as I am. If you love radio... I love you... Holla!
Bonus Questions
If you could have one "super hero power" what would it be?
X-Ray vision. For the obvious reason. I'm a perv.
